His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, speaking to a capacity audience in the Albert Hall in 1984 united his listeners instantly with one simple statement: "All beings want to be happy; they want to avoid pain and suffering." I was impressed at how he was able to touch what we share as human beings. He affirmed our common humanity, without in any way dismissing the obvious differences.

This was a free professional development forum about good practice for Community Development/Liaison workers in the Western suburbs. The program covered including: Current community development priorities and initiatives in local Government, Engaging diverse Communities, Making the most of the media.

Around 2,500 people attended this year's Buddha Day at Quang Minh Temple on Sunday 17-05-2009. This event was also seen as an open day for the whole family. The day began with a Special Service by Vietnamese Buddhist Groups Dai Hoan Hy & Dai Bi Quang Am at 9am, followed by a formal service in the Community Hall. A free vegetarian lunch was provided at 1 pm, and community performances started at 1:30pm.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, I was on my way to pick up a friend and join in the annual Quang Minh Temple bus Pilgrimage. In one of those perfectly timed Dharma co-incidences, ABC Radio National’s “Great Traveller’s” series was airing about another pilgrimage…none other than the story of Venerable Xuan Zang or you may be familiar with the epic known as “The Journey to the West”.

Quang Minh’s Assembly was established in 1987. It stopped operating for a while and was re-established again in the year 1998, when the Abbot Thich Phuoc Tan was appointed by The Most Venerable Thich Phuoc Hue.
