Quang Minh Tet Festival is a unique annual event held in the City of Maribyrnong.  Each year more than 10,000 people attend this event to celebrate Vietnamese Lunar New Year, watch performances, see displays, chants and eat vegetarian food.  It is also a time when all members of the community are invited to come to the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple to reflect the past and receive blessing for the New Year.

The Quang Minh Tet Festival was developed to attract and cater for a wide range of visitors, resulting in the promotion and development of the existing rich culture.  Cultural identity is enhanced & strengthened through the continuity of this traditional event.  Proof of such success is shown by growing number of visitors to the Quang MinhTemple each year.

Over the years, Quang Minh Buddhist temple has emerged as an important tourist destination for this city.  It is also an important space for relationship building for individual, community and government.  These relationships are recognised by events such as the “Dalai Lama” visit in 1996, the Maribyrnong Festival Opening in 1997, Australian citizenship ceremonies in 2000-2002 and the closing ceremony of the Big West Festival late last year.

Like many of Quang Minh Temple’s events, the Tet Festival at Quang Minh Temple provides opportunity for community members to learn and explore issues of importance.  As a religious as well as a community gathering place, beliefs can be dealt with or taught by means of artistic values and traditional methods of education.
